MEET THE ELDER TEAM
Returning Candidates

Jeff Hamar
Married 33 years
2 Adult children
Employed at Fisher Controls for the past 24 years
----------
I was born and raised in western Nebraska. Yes, I am a Huskers fan. I graduated high school in 1989, joined the Navy in 1991, and married Lisa in 1992. In 1997, the Navy moved me to Iowa to be a recruiter. They let me bring Lisa and our two sons, Alex and Josh. I started working at Fisher Controls on September 4, 2001 and got out of the Navy officially on September 29 of that same year. Several years ago, Lisa and I started attending Cornerstone Church in Ames. At the time, we were part of one of the two connection groups based in Marshalltown. We were both thrilled about the launch of a church plant here—we saw it as an opportunity to impact the Marshalltown community just as Cornerstone had impacted Ames. It was through Cornerstone that I came to understand faith as a relationship with Jesus, not just head knowledge about Him. That relationship truly began at Mosaic Church and has continued to grow and shape who I am today. Lisa and I are now co-leaders of a connection group with Geoff and Nancy Schive. I am also on the safety team and the set-up team. I am both excited and nervous to step into the role of Elder in Training at Mosaic Church. It is an opportunity to humbly serve and grow with this church family.

Don Michaelsen
Married 43 years
4 Adult Children
Associate Pastor at Mosaic Church
----------
I was born again at the age of 8 in response to an invitation given by the pastor at the end of a week of Vacation Bible School. I base my salvation on John 3:16, the verse I was led to personalize when I trusted Christ as my Savior.
“...I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry” (1 Timothy 1:12). I first sensed that I was called to vocational ministry in Junior High, and from then on had an increasing desire to serve as a pastor.
I prepared for ministry at Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, where I met my wife, Jeanie. Prior to coming to Mosaic as Interim Pastor, we served in pastoral ministry for 41 years in 4 churches. We have 4 grown children and 7 grandkids. My passion is preaching and teaching God's Word, seeking to provide Biblical insight for 21st century living.

Travis Newman
Married 7 years
4 Children
Lead Pastor at Mosaic Church
----------
I grew up in a baptist church, hearing the gospel, and made a profession of faith in Christ at the age of 8. But, I began truly "following" Christ at the age of 26 when a girl put me in the "friend-zone" because I wasn't acting like a Christian. It made me stop and think, "do I really believe in Jesus as Lord? Or do I just say I do?" I decided I do believe, and I had better start acting like it. That girl would later become my wife, and she remains my best friend and counsellor, and is willing to challenge me to this day. We've now been married seven years and have four children: Vivian (5), Wesley (3), Porter (2), and Holden (6mo).
After beginning to truly confess my sins and follow Christ, I discerned a calling to ministry over a span of a few years, and began learning to preach and teach the Bible. I possessed head knowledge about the Bible and about theology going all the way back to childhood, but I was finally putting it to use because I understood and believed the gospel.
My wife and I were discipled and began leading small groups at Veritas Church in Iowa City, IA. We also took theological training classes through Veritas. Eventually, I had my first preaching experience at the Veritas Youth ministry. My family then moved to Dubuque, IA where I served as a pastor and elder with a new church plant, Veritas Dubuque, for almost three years. In December of 2025, we moved to Marshalltown and I accepted the call as the Lead Pastor of Mosaic Church. Paul solemnly charged Timothy to "preach the Word," and I view this as the guiding light in my ministry work. May it be so, and may God receive all the glory!

I grew up in California and came to Christ May 7th, 1975. Dawn and I met in 1985 and married that same year. We first lived in Portland, Oregon; then, after 2 years in the Quad-Cities, we moved to Altoona where we would spend the next 20+ years were we actively served in children's ministries, leading Adult Bible Fellowships, and College Ministries. In 2016, we moved to Marshalltown to provide daycare for our grandkids. We have been active in Mosaic since its initial launch. I am excited to see how God uses Mosaic to reach Marshalltown with the love of Jesus.

Newly Proposed Candidate

Tim Klinge
Tim Klinge
Married 16 years
2 Teenage Children
Employed at Fisher Controls for 15 years
----------
I was fortunate to grow up in a loving and Christ centered home with four brothers and two sisters in Waverly Iowa. Although we have been working in Marshalltown for more than 15 years, my wife Carrie and I chose to live in neighboring communities for 13 of them based on its historically "less than ideal" reputation. Mosaic Church was one of the reasons we finally decided to go "all-in" for Marshalltown, buying a house and sending our kids to the public school in 2023. It has been incredible the love and passion God has given me for this town since that decision and I am proud to live, worship, and invest in this community!
